I had a strange issue recently with my Surface Pro 3. It seemed like, ever since upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I would get an issue where, sometimes when I went into sleep mode and then came out some hours later, the Modern (aka Metro) style apps would freeze up. And only the Modern apps; standard desktop applications did not hang.
So I called Microsoft several times. We ran sfc
, some PowerShell to fix app manifests, and it was no good. Eventually I used the Settings->Recovery->Reset this PC option to reinstall Windows. Still didn’t fix it.
So, bizarre as it sounds, now I’ll be getting my Surface Pro 3 swapped out. I thought this was a software issue but perhaps it’s actually a hardware problem somewhere in the internals of power management. Who knows.
