Cade--June 2004
-
06-02-2004: A bat in the hand...
- Cade just caught one of his bats while
in his swing. We could tell because the swing started making a weird sound.
What else? Cade nearly turned himself from his back onto his stomach yesterday.
He was totally in position, except he left one arm underneath his body, and then
flipped himself back around.
-
06-04-2004: Cade rolls over
- Apparently, while Cade was on the bed
yesterday, he rolled over while Leslie was out of the room. From his back onto
his stomach (we've been waiting months for that). He was groggy
afterward...guess we'll see if he gets into it more.
He was also (in the evening) babbling a lot, including a lot of "dadadadada".
Finally he's getting the paternal syllable!
This morning, he decided that he wasn't going to sleep all night...no, 3 hours
was good before waking for over an hour. He played some in his crib and then
Leslie had to get up and read to him. They say that some kids sleep less than
others...sometimes a sign of a bright kid. It sure isn't easy on Leslie though
(or, to a lesser extent, myself), but we're trying to be there for him.-
-
In the evening after work, Cade had already gotten much better at the rolling.
He rolled around several times on the living room floor, rolled over after a
diaper change, and so on. Basically, now he's semi-mobile. Yup, they
really do grow up quick.

06-05-2004: Cade goes Greek
- Cade loves to sleep on Leslie in bed, and
it's a hard habit to discourage. Usually I can't get a picture for obvious
reasons, but
this morning I could.
We went to the Greek Festival today and brought Cade along.
Here's the little "slugger" in his stroller and baseball cap.-

06-09-2004: Cade imitates
- Yesterday Leslie was playing with Cade with
his Eeyore toy. She slowly brings it to his nose, says "beep!", and then shakes
it, making it squeak. Cade began to follow up by slowly moving his nose to touch
Eeyore.
Today, while Cade was in his booster seat, staring at one of the toys, I pushed
the pad on it (which causes a burst of air inside to push around some little
balls) several times. Cade looked at it for about two seconds before he started
hitting it with his closed fist. Unfortunately he needs to either get stronger,
or improve his aim in order to actually see any effect. But still, I'm
impressed.
-
06-11-2004: Cade's toothy smile
- Cade's first tooth became visible
yesterday. I snapped a picture of it and will have to put it online soon.
Okay,
here it is.
-
06-19-2004: Cade lifting
- Cade's reach, as well as his strength, are
increasing. While in his crib, he was grabbing his crib toy and rocking
himself forward and upward--just beginning to try to pull himself up. It
will be very soon that we have to convert his crib, I think.
Also, while on his stomach, I saw him reaching up near the coffee table. I
had to move him, since Leslie's laptop was sticking out and he looked like he
wanted to pull it down.
Cade also had a
messy time eating.-
-
06-20-2004: Santa Cruz party
- We went to a birthday party in Santa Cruz.
I snapped this picture of
Cade wearing Shrek ears.
-
06-21-2004: Tooth 2
- I think it was Friday (18th) or Saturday (19th)
that we noticed Cade has a second tooth out now--the top incisor on his right,
directly above the previous tooth.
Also, on Saturday I got him to try a bit more bread, and even tried mixing it in
with his beef which was mixed in with cauliflower + cheese. He did all
right eating the lumpy stuff. Note that we're fairly behind in terms of
advancing his eating habits, but he does seem willing to try new things.
Here's a picture of
Cade with his soccer ball.
-
06-23-2004: Cade with shades
- Here's a picture of
Cade in bed with his overalls.
And, a picture of him with
his new shades. Oh,
here's another one.
-
06-24-2004: Cade's mobile
- That mobile is really not safe. Cade
keeps
reaching for it, and sometimes grabbing it.
-
06-26-2004: Santa Clara Central Park
- We took a walk to Santa Clara's
Central Park and had a great time there, very relaxing.

06-29-2004: Cade has been up to new things lately
- Trying to get at my
laptop while I'm using it (Leslie's as well). The cord also. Any cord, but
especially my laptop power cord or game controller cord. Maybe it's time to take
the consoles wireless...
He also gets easily distracted by the TV, and I wish Leslie would not have it on
so much. I turn off the TV sometimes and just play music, though I like to watch
about an hour a night (or a movie sometimes).
He was spinning in circles on his stomach last night after a diaper change. It
took him a little while to go around but he seemed to be doing it mostly just
for fun. He was perfectly physically capable of turning around like this months
ago, but I don't think we ever saw him actually do a full 360 and then keep
going in the same direction; he would always stop and focus on something of
interest.
He's beginning to drag himself forward a bit, mostly with his hands and assisted
a bit by his legs. He got about 8-12 inches forward, enough to grab some of
Leslie's costume pattern.
We've gotten him to hold his teething biscuit, but not actually to get
interested in sucking on it. He will play with his teething rings, but what he
really likes in his mouth is wet paper towels. We buy the cloth-like Viva (by
Kleenex) brand, which is very soft and durable--also suitable for assisting in
messy diaper changes.
Still no third tooth, but it looks about ready to cut. It's his top left central
incisor. His top and bottom central incisors are in and we wonder if they hurt
each other more when they come in above and below each other, one right after
the other. My mother told us that no molars come in until the age of 6, but
looking at a dental chart, I realized that they get four central incisors, four
lateral incisors, four cuspids (canine/eye teeth), and eight bicuspids before
the 4 6-year molars, the 4 12-year molars, and finally the 4 Wisdom Teeth. What
with the bicuspids, I guess the little ones will still be able to have their
steak and eat it too.
He's rolling on bed just enough to make me worried. We have a low bed, but I
think we're going to have to pad the floor in case he falls off. Maybe a few
towels will do it--I don't want anything that I'll trip over getting in/out of
bed. I think Leslie is also trying to get Cade to sleep more in his crib, but he
still ends up in our bed after I wake up, and that's when it is most dangerous
for him since he can roll off my side.
