Watching the sun rise over the canyon is amazing. |

Lots of long shadows during sunrise. |

Smack in the middle of this, you can just barely make out cliff
dwellings. |

Canyons_IMG_6992 |

Canyons_IMG_6993
In the overhangs near the bottom there are additional cliff dwellings. |

Land_bridge_IMG_6995
An astounding land bridge. I took lots and lots of pictures
in a feeble attempt to capture its glory. |

Land_bridge_IMG_7000 Seriously,
couldn't you imagine a movie with people battling on such terrain?
In fact there are ruins of walls along the land bridge built as
fortifications for just such a purpose. |

Once
you get across the land bridge (and it's tricky to find your
way
around to get across), you can see these ruins on the side. |

Note the window to the right. Its wooden beam has been
removed and the stones appear to have fallen inside. We
believe this may have been done recently--a shame. |

Ruins_IMG_2078
This lashing is still in place, thousands of years later! The
wood is intact and helps hold up some of the stones. In fact,
the mud used as mortar between the stones is still intact as well. |

Ruins_IMG_2083
A stone for scraping or grinding, along with a broken base (matate).
We're thankful that no one has removed these from this site.
Removing from a pit house ruin is one thing, but this relatively intact
and unique ruin deserves to be left alone. |

Spearpoint_IMG_2102
This shows you that, when hunting for artifacts, a point may only be
sticking out of the ground a bit. |

Spearpoint_IMG_2104
The same point in Chris' very dry hand. |

Todd_by_boulders_IMG_2073 |

Todd_by_dry_water_pools_IMG_2097
These dry water pools may have been a source of water for inhabitants
of the land bridge ruin--an excellent place to collect rainwater. |
