I had a great time at my first ever writers conference, despite some unusual hiccups.
The hiccup was that my ex was supposed to have our son this weekend. Due to a medical emergency, that didn't happen as planned. The good news for me is that my wonderful wife stepped in. Bear in mind that my son has autism and isn't easy to care for sometimes.
In the end I was able to attend all of the Thursday prequel, Friday until after dinner, Saturday except for dinner, and Sunday. I really enjoyed the courses, and of course all the opportunities to meet the agents and editors both in classes and during meals. The professional critiques were fantastic as well.
It shouldn't have come as such a surprise, but at the end of the conference I heard that PPWC has consistently ranked in the top 10 of writers conferences in the country. The rumor was that it went from #5 to #3 recently. I couldn't find the rankings myself, but it's good to hear. They did a real bangup job.
There was a silent auction, and I won an editor critique of my first 50 pages. I'm thrilled, to say the least. However I have some things to do before sending it off--or before sending it off to any agents.
Lastly, I'm already pre-registered for next year!
